Statement
My paintings and monotypes are imagined impressionist landscapes/scenes, often combined with abstract expressionist or absurdist elements. These altered landscapes offer a window to the past or future, addressing our current environmental and existential challenges, considering humanity's continuing impact on the natural world.
I have always been drawn to antique and vintage printed material and often use fragments of books, maps, or other odd bits to add an historical layer of meaning. After a career in graphic design, I have returned to making art for myself: the act of painting and reworking and refining things inspires me to reflect on impermanence, change, and now, more than ever, the importance of learning from the past.
